CLASS and MECHANISM of Action
Generic Flomax belongs to a class of drugs called alpha-adrenergic blockers. It is a drug for the treatment of men who are having difficulty urinating because of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Generic Flomax causes the blood vessels (veins and arteries) to relax and expand, so that blood passes through them more easily. This effect relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.
Active Ingredients: Tamsulosin
Inactive Ingredients: methacrylic acid copolymer, cellulose, triacetin, polysorbate 80, calcium stearate, talc, FD&C blue No. 2, titanium dioxide, ferric oxide, gelatin, and trace amounts of shellac, industrial methylated spirit 74 OP, n-butyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, propylene glycol, dimethylpolysiloxane, and black iron oxide E172.
What is Generic Flomax PRESCRIBED For?
Generic Flomax is used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate--a condition technically known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. The walnut-sized prostate gland surrounds the urethra (the duct that drains the bladder). If the gland becomes enlarged, it can squeeze the urethra, interfering with the flow of urine. This can cause difficulty in starting urination, a weak flow of urine, and the need to urinate urgently or more frequently. Generic Flomax doesn't shrink the prostate. Instead, it relaxes the muscle around it, freeing the flow of urine and decreasing urinary symptoms.
How Should I Take Generic Flomax?

Your health care professional may want you to have blood tests or other medical evaluations during treatment with Generic Flomax to monitor progress and side effects.
