CLASS and MECHANISM of Action
Generic "Lamisil" is a synthetic allylamine antifungal. It is highly lipophilic in nature and tends to accumulate in skin, nails, and fatty tissues. In layman's terms, it inhibits fungal and bacterial cell wall growth, causing the contents of the cell to be unprotected and eventually die.
Active ingredient: terbinafine
Inactive Ingredients: cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, sodium starch glycolate, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, colloidal silicon dioxide.
What is Generic "Lamisil" PRESCRIBED For?
Generic "Lamisil" is prescribed for the treatment of onychomycosis of the toenail or fingernail due to the dermatophyte Tinea unguium. Fungal nail infections are located deep under the nail in the cuticle to which topically applied treatments are unable to penetrate in sufficient amounts. The tablets may rarely cause hepatotoxicity, so patients are warned of this and may be monitered with liver function tests. Alcohol consumption should also be avoided while taking Generic "Lamisil".
How should I take Generic "Lamisil"?
Generic "Lamisil" comes as a tablet to take orally. It is usually taken once a day for 6 weeks for fingernail fungus and once a day for 12 weeks for toenail fungus. Take Generic "Lamisil" exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Your fungus may not be completely cured until a few months after you finish taking Generic "Lamisil". This is because it takes time for a healthy nail to grow in.
Store Generic "Lamisil" at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
